Hidden Camera Detection
Hotel accomodationWe received the call on a Tuesday, very direct and to the point, “you guys can find spy cameras, right” to which we replied; yes hidden camera detection would be identified as part of a technical surveillance countermeasures (TSCM) or local technical inspection debugging sweep. Great we have 20 rooms for you to look at. Turned out, the caller was director of security for a group of hotels.
The hotel maintenance team had located (purely by accident) a hidden camera in one of the junior suites. We were tasked to remove this spy-cam forensically documenting the details, this was a wired hidden camera (Unusual as all previous finds were wireless spy-cams) the wire had been chased into the plaster above a door frame (Re-plastered and painted) the wires then went into the air-conditioning duct and reappeared in the ceiling attached to a small recording device. Hidden camera detection continued at the other 19 locations we identified an additional 7 hidden cameras; 4 more concealed cameras (wired) and 3 wireless spycams these were “quick plants” which would have taken minutes to install, rather than hours for the wired concealed cameras. Confidentiality precludes me from articulating in any more detail.
Bugging devices, eavesdropping recording equipment, covert RF transmitting equipment, hidden cameras and spy cams are now so small and inconspicuous that the average person will have no comprehension that they are being viewed or recorded. If you need to know that it is safe to talk you need a TSCM specialist to undertake a bug sweep to identify and detect illegal eavesdropping devices and other privacy threats including hidden camera detection.
Economic espionage, privacy invasion, the theft of business secrets and intellectual property are the new normal in today’s competitive business environment. You need to protect your business by undertaking regular bug detection sweeps.
